Geeking out over the scale mode of the Perseverance rover at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, TX
Nice to meet you! My name is Nick Watson and I am a Master's Mechanical Engineering student at Johns Hopkins University. I have a strong academic background and hands-on experience in cutting-edge research and design projects.
Some high-impact projects that I've had the honor of contributing to include NASA's DAVINCI Venus Oxygen Fugacity Sensor (VfOx) and the competition rover on the Johns Hopkins University Rover Team.
I have developed proficiencies in skills such as computational fluid dynamics, computer-aided design (PTC Creo, SolidWorks), and experimental design.
For the past year, I have been employed as a Mechanical Engineer at the Physics Demonstration Lab for the JHU Physics and Astronomy department. Here, I have designed and built numerous high-level demonstrations (optics, projectile motion, electronics) from scratch. In addition to original projects, I have repaired and improved numerous existing demonstrations for the classroom. These demonstrations are used to boost student engagement and improve comprehension of complex physics concepts.

I continue to explore my love for music that I have fostered since I was 3 through my studies in piano and violin. Additionally, I have begun teaching myself guitar, tin whistle and harmonica. Additionally, I have been trying my hand at more composition, including arranging and setting traditional folk songs from different cultures for piano.
Currently, I am preparing a full-length, 60+ minute piano/biographical program focused on the music and life of the Australian composer Percy Grainger. Here's a selection from that program to the left!
I also like to spend time with family, friends, and especially with my wonderful fiancée Asa. Asa and I like to explore cafés and make our own fancy lattes, along with doing puzzles, watching movies and sharing music with each other. We also love playing Dungeons and Dragons and Baldur's gate, and nerding out about lots of other things in general!
Other recent hobbies include learning Korean and growing plants in my new hydroponics garden!

I also got to see the Daredevil: Born Again costumes at NY ComicCon this past year... as a fan since the beginning Daredevil first came out on Netflix, this is one of the coolest things I've seen!
